What we do
In 1999, a few utility employees had an idea for a simple way to protect linemen from one of the dangers they face on a day-to-day basis: re-energizing faulted transformers. From this, IFD Technologies was formed to develop, with utility partners, a reliable low-cost sensor suitable for detection and indication of internal arcing faults in distribution transformers.
In 2001 we shipped our first sensor to a utility customer. Today, utility and commercial industrial customers around the world use, and have come to trust, our patented reliable technology.
Our team approach to development, with innovative industry partners, continues to deliver practical solutions for the distribution system of today, and for tomorrow’s customers. We are now providing distribution fault detection, temperature and other sensor technologies. Our company’s detection systems indicate internal arcing faults and other pending failures in pole-mounted and pad-mounted distribution transformers through maintenance-free mechanical sensors. These technologies enable all utilities to replace failed or failing transformers while maintaining worker safety and faster outage restoration at the most affordable technology investment levels.
